At our annual State Convention meeting in October, Lead Missionary, Steve Ballew, brought an inspiring message on the importance of fulfilling the Great Commission in New Mexico. Committing the message to prayer, Tri-Area DOM, Dave McFadden, came across a Baptist Press article about an annual event conducted by the Arkansas State Convention involving an in state mission trip for Arkansas churches. Arkansas has been doing this since 2010. According to the Baptist Press article, in their most recent event, they had seen over 400 professions of faith. You can read the article by clicking HERE.
Dave sent a copy of the article to BCNM staff leadership, Steve Ballew, Matt Thackerson, and Rick Brittain, offering for Tri-Area to partner with them if they felt this good idea might be a God idea. After prayer, the BCNM has decided that, indeed, this was an idea God would have them pursue in New Mexico. As the Lord has fleshed things out, the idea is to have two One Day events, in order to make it easier for New Mexico churches to have a location that they might be able to travel to and back home in one day. Those two locations are Tucumcari and Silver City, New Mexico.
BCNM leadership has selected Saturday, September 27th as the day for the One Day in state mission trip. New Mexico Baptists traveled from across the state to Tucumcari or Silver City on Saturday, September 27th, for a day of prayer walks, evangelistic survey work, community outreach projects, block parties, kids’ ministries, and more. The idea is to saturate Tucumcari and Silver City with the gospel.
This One Day in state mission trip was promoted at this year's Evangelism Conference, with it being featured in one of the Break Out Sessions of the conference. More information will be made available to New Mexico churches as the date approaches. Of course, it is hoped that our Tri-Area churches might all partner together for the Tucumcari One Day event.
