Do you need a good laugh this morning. Here is a list of actual bloopers that appeared in church bulletins:
* "This afternoon there will be a meeting in the south and north ends of the church. People will be baptized at both ends."
* "A bean supper will be held Saturday evening in the Church Basement. Music will follow."
* "Tonight's sermon: 'What is Hell?' Come early and listen to our choir practice."
"The outreach committee has enlisted 25 visitors to make calls on people who are not afflicted with any church."
* This morning's sermon: 'Jesus Walks on The Water.' Tonight's sermon: 'Searching for Jesus.'"
I hope none of these ever appeared in your church bulletin. If something like them did, exercise some grace with your church secretary.
This past Sunday I was blessed to worship at FBC Tucumcari and hear a great message from Pastor Rusty Kenyon from Proverbs 31. I had lunch with one Tucumcari pastor and visited that afternoon with another. Monday included meetings at breakfast and lunch with pastors, and I visited another church on my way back to Clovis. Take a moment today to pray for our congregations and pastors who serve in Tucumcari and the surrounding area.

Also on Monday morning I joined a Zoom meeting with all the DOM's across New Mexico, and several of our convention staff members. They shared some important information about our upcoming One Day event in September. More than 2000 people are expected to join together on September 26 for special mission projects in Roswell and the East Mountains. Registration will open on July 1 for churches to enlist to help with this wonderful effort. There will be projects for every age group and experience. This is a wonderful opportunity to fulfill the Great Commission without leaving our area. Pastors, be talking to your missions leaders about how your church can participate in the One Day Mission Trip.
This week I met with a group of leaders planning a Men's Conference in Clovis, and with pastors in the Fort Sumner area.
On Wednesday I went to Lubbock for the funeral of a friend. His name was Gary Newman. Gary was a pastor, musician and evangelist for more than 50 years. More than that, he was a friend. We served together years ago on a church staff in East Texas. As he began to struggle with Parkinson's Disease we mainly visited over the phone. He was, perhaps, the most caring, compassionate, kind man I have ever known. He had the gift of encouragement like no one else in my life and ministry. The last time I saw him was Easter Sunday morning in church. He was very frail, but he was determined to be in the Lord's house celebrating our Savior's resurrection. If there was ever anyone who could say "I have fought the good fight... I have finished the race, I have kept the faith..." it would be Gary. I am going to miss him.
Next week we will finally be moving into our new home. I will be working on that most of the week, but will be just a phone call away if I can help you Please do not hesitate to contact me.
Have a great week in the Lord!
Damon
