Notes From Our

Director of Missions

Believe it or not, by the end of this week we will be in August.  Summer has just flown by to me.  Of course that means that the start of school is just around the corner. 

I was blessed last weekend to visit two of our churches' end of Summer ministries.  Central Baptist in Clovis hosted it's 15th annual Block Party with the Christian Believers Ministry.  I have many fond memories of this ministry from my years at Central.  BJ Brooks does a great job planning this event along with Sistar Yancy of Christian Believers.  Saturday evening we stopped by Sandia Church to see their backpack distribution.  It was amazing to see hundreds of families enjoying food and fellowship. Sandia distributed more than 650 backpacks equipped with a complete set of school supplies that were specific to each grade. It is an amazing ministry.  Here are a couple of pictures from the two Saturday events:

I know other Tri-Area Association churches are hosting similar projects in the coming days.  If you would, send us some pictures and a short report so we can all celebrate these important ministries.

When I led ministries like this in my churches in the past we focused on PRAYING over the backpacks and supplies before they were distributed.  Another prayer focus for me was a daily reminder over the 30 days before school started to pray for specific groups in the schools, like teachers, administrators, counselors, custodians and bus drivers.  We assigned a day to each group over the 30 days before school.  It is too late to pray for 30 days over our schools, but we can still commit to pray for our students, teachers, administrators and workers.  I know how much they appreciate our lifting them up to the Lord.

Speaking of prayers, here is the list of congregations for our "Churches Praying for Churches" emphasis.  This week we will be lifting up First Baptist Elida, First Baptist Fort Sumner, and First Baptist House.  I would love it if you would encourage your congregation to be in prayer for our family of churches in the Tri-Area Association.  

We will be sending out a registration link for the Fall Pastor's Retreat with Dr. Richard Blackaby which will be held on Saturday, September 12.  We will begin with fellowship at 8:30 am, and the teaching will start at 9 am.  Richard will teach three sessions on Spiritual Leadership and we will enjoy lunch together.  Pastors - watch for the registration link and sign up for this great opportunity to come and be blessed and not have to prepare or do anything.  This is for YOU.

I have been excited to hear many churches already preparing to participate in the One Day event in Roswell on September 26.  The BCNM shared the list of different activities that will be offered on that day.  There are ministries that will offer opportunities for everyone.  Here is the list of projects that BCNM is planning:

I was blessed to preach this past Sunday at Emmanuel Baptist in Portales as CJ Garrett enjoyed some days of vacation.  It was a great service, and we enjoyed a covered-dish lunch as well.  Thanks CJ for the invitation.
