The New Mexico Baptist Children's Home is excited to introduce John and Christina Mix, their newest houseparents on the Portales campus. The Mix's journey to this role is rooted in faith and a desire to make a difference in the lives of children.

Originally from Maryland, they moved to Albuquerque four years ago to care for a family member. What began as a temporary relocation became a new chapter filled with purpose. After learning about local ministries serving children, they felt called to step into this role and soon joined the Children's Home team.
Together, they share a vision of creating a safe, nurturing environment where children can experience a sense of belonging, learn life skills, and grow in confidence and hope.
Their daily routine includes preparing meals, supporting school schedules and activities, helping with homework, and fostering meaningful connections through shared activities and evening devotions. They know that every day is different and are committed to meeting each moment with patience and care.
As they settle into their new role, John and Christina look forward to building strong relationships and helping every child feel valued and loved. The Children's Home is thrilled to have them on board. We welcome this family to this area of the world!

FBC Tucumcari's
Busy December!
Like most churches, First Tucumcari had a busy month of December. Among many activities, on December 6th the church participated in the Tucumcari Main Street light parade - a float with Mark Whittington's vintage pick up and Pastor Rusty Kenyon was lit up!

Several church members then helped with the event in itself, including the group known as the golden girls handing out golden tickets to see a movie.
Then on December 13, the outreach committee had a women’s Christmas tea at the Tucumcari railroad depot. This was a very well attended event featuring speaker from Clovis, Robyne Beaubein.
On Christmas Eve a few ladies from FBC Tucumcari had the honor of delivering (through an anonymous generous donation) Christmas gifts to all residents of Autumn Blessings Assisted Living in Logan. They also gave little treat baskets to the very hard-working, sweet and incredible staff there as well.

However, the day did not stop there. Christmas gifts were also delivered to the amazing staff at Presbyterian hospice to deliver to all of their hospice patients.
This was a heartwarming experience, and the church is so grateful to the donor who gave them the ability to do this.
Thank you, FBC Tucumcari for sharing some of the happenings going on at your church! Other churches may also submit items for possible inclusion in the association's newsletter to Elaine at tri.area.baptist.association@gmail.com.

'Thriving Church Podcast'
Set to Launch in January
ALBUQUERQUE (BNM) - The Baptist Convention of New Mexico is launching a weekly podcast: The Thriving Church Podcast. A sample “episode 0” is already available. Hosts Kevin Parker and Rick Brittain will cover topics aimed at helping churches be stronger, healthier, reach people and build spiritual champions who live out God’s Kingdom across New Mexico and around the world. They will host guests from inside and outside the state, including pastors, church members, Southern Baptist Convention thought leaders and convention staff.
The conversational podcast caters to a wide audience: church members, church leaders and pastors. It is more than a leadership podcast. Produced to be 15 minutes or shorter, per episode, the podcast is easy and accessible for listening.
The BCNM’s social media and websites manager, Hope Evans, will also join the podcast as its events announcer. She will provide a segment of upcoming event information call “Thirty Seconds of Hope.”
Conversations are based upon the belief that God designed every church to thrive and flourish – to be healthy and effective. They explore the path to becoming a healthy, effective church and how a church maintains its health and impact? Parker and Brittain hope listeners will discover tools, tips, resources, ideas and approaches that can help their churches thrive.
Currently, an introductory five-minute “episode 0” is available for streaming or download at the podcast website, ThrivingChurchPodcast.com. In it, Parker and Brittain give a sample of the format and talk about both the audience and coming content.
The first official episode drops Jan. 19 at 5:00 a.m. A new episode will follow every Monday morning. Six episodes are already recorded and ready for release. Episodes will encourage use of the rubric “listen, customize, apply, impact.”
The initial series of conversations walks through the 12 characteristics of a biblically healthy church. The International Mission Board uses the concepts for international, cross-cultural church planting. The BCNM has adopted them as its model for healthy churches.
At this time, the podcast will be audio-only. The production team is considering a video format later in the year or in early 2027.
By its episode 1 release date, the podcast will be available on all major podcasting platforms. Resources and past episodes will be accessible from the podcast website, ThrivingChurchPodcast.com.
