Some school districts in our area are already holding classes and all others will soon join them. The following is copied from a Lifeway webpage for suggestions on how to pray for the students (and all the educational staff).
As another school year begins, many of us are helping our children navigate new classrooms, new teachers, new friendships, and new challenges. While we can’t be with them every moment of the day, we can faithfully bring them before the Lord in prayer. Prayer reminds us that God loves our children even more than we do and that He is present in every detail of their lives.
Whether your children are excited, anxious, thriving, or struggling, prayer is a powerful way to entrust them to God’s care and invite His wisdom, protection, and guidance into their school year. These prayer prompts for your children are designed to help you intentionally pray for your children throughout the year, trusting that God is at work in their hearts, minds, and lives.
1. The year ahead of them is a gift from You, Lord. May they grow into all You have for them this year. Every day is holy. Thank You, Jesus, for promising You will be with them for every moment of it (Matt. 28:20).
2. May Your will be done in their lives, in the classroom, playground, field, and everywhere they go, in Jesus’s name.
3. May they be empowered to bless and forgive their enemies (Luke 6:27-30).
4. May they have the courage of Esther, the faithfulness of Ruth, the faith of Abraham, and the humility of Moses.
5. May they love wisdom and seek it like Solomon. May they always hate what is evil and walk in truth (Rom.12:9-16).
6. May they learn to respect and honor their teachers and leaders even when they may disagree with them.
7. Please give them safety and protection in every area, including mind, body, and soul.
8. May You bless them with godly friends like Jonathan who love, encourage, and point them to You. May they be faithful and godly friends to someone who needs it (1 Thess. 5:11).
9. May they have a fun year filled with special moments and meaningful opportunities.
10. May they shine with the light of Jesus in every room they enter, and may they have opportunities to tell others about the good news of Jesus (Matt. 28:16-20).
11. Please release any nerves or anxiety they may experience with the school year.
12. May we have intentional, meaningful mornings together as we prepare for the school day.
13. Lord, please help them to see their school as a mission field and give them the courage to share about You.
14. May they know the heights and depths of Your love for them, which is deeper than the deepest ocean and higher than the stars in the universe (Eph. 3:18).
