May the words of Zecheriah 10:1 be our prayer:

Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime;
it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms.
He gives showers of rain to all people,
and plants of the field to everyone.

Notes From Our

Director of Missions

Hasn't it been wonderful to experience some rain over the past few days?  Bonnie and I drove back to Clovis through a hard rain and storm on Saturday night.  It had been so long I wasn't certain my windshield wipers still worked.  It has been a blessing to see the lightning, hear the thunder, and smell the drops fall on our dry lawns and fields.  Thank you, Lord, for the rain.

In the next few weeks many of our churches will be having Vacation Bible School.  This wonderful tradition is one of the most important and effective ministries of the church. Here are a few reasons why VBS is still a vital ministry for churches large and small:

The activities, lessons and projects of VBS reach out to a generation that all too often isolates itself behind screens and devices.  Kids these days put in more screen time every day than ever, and the exciting, physical and personal experience of VBS breaks through that barrier.

  • VBS provides the most effective and productive outreach ministry to children of the community.  While many church kids come to VBS, very often for children outside the church VBS is their first opportunity to attend and hear the Gospel.
  • Another blessing of VBS is that it mobilizes the ENTIRE church family for an important ministry.  There are places for every member of the church to serve in VBS.  Do not forget to encourage your MEN to be involved in VBS.  Their presence makes a huge difference to kids when they attend.

Know that I am praying for each of your congregations as you have your VBS this Summer.  Don't be surprised if I show up to see how it's going.  I love VBS and believe it is one of the most important ministries of the church.

There are a few things that I would like to share with you about important Mission projects coming up in our churches:

  • We are working on a ministry relationship in Honduras.  Several folks from Emmanuel Baptist in Portales traveled there this Spring, and are excited about a shared vision for ministry opportunities there.  Stay tuned as we develop this idea into some steps in ministry.
  • Pleasant Hill Baptist Church hosted Ronna Jordan earlier this Spring, and she shared with them an opportunity to dig a water well in Kenya,  We take clean drinking water for granted, but in Africa a water well can be literally the difference between life and death.  We will share specific information about how your church can partner in this project in coming weeks.

With these projects, and others we are praying about, EVERY church in our Association can participate - by PRAYING, by PROVING financial support, or by PARTICIPATING and going on the trip.

One other exciting project coming up in our Association is the 1613 Men's Conference Simulcast being hosted at Highland Baptist Church in Clovis on July 17-18.  This is going to be a great opportunity for worship, discipleship and fellowship for men across our association.  Pastors, I would like to ask you to each invite 2-3 men to join you for the conference that weekend.  Please also send me the name of at least one person in your church that I could encourage personally to attend.  The guys at Highland are working hard to provide this opportunity for men in our churches.  Don't miss it.

This past Sunday was our first to wake up in our home in Clovis then head out to visit and minister in Tri-Area churches.  I cannot tell you how good it felt to not be commuting in on Sunday morning.  Bonnie and I are blessed to be here with you, and we look forward to wonderful days of ministry together.

Have a great week in the Lord!

What Makes 1613 Men’s Conference Different?

You’ll walk away with:

  • Hard-won clarity
  • A battle plan for leading with strength and conviction
  • Brotherhood committed to truth over comfort

PRAY FOR MISSIONARIES WITH

NEW MEXICO TIES

Would you like to receive monthly updates from IMB missionaries with NM ties? Emily Taigaafi has taken over the WMU prayer update newsletter that Karen Pilgreen has faithfully sent out for several years. The format has changed and you will need to sign up even if you already received the newsletter. You can do that by clicking on this LINK.

Emily grew up overseas as a missionary kid, and these prayers from people back home have directly impacted her family.

The Book of the Week is The Blessing by John Trent and Gary Smalley.  It is listed with the Marriage and Family portion of the Encourage tab:  Good Books section on our website.

In this revised and updated edition, learn how the biblical gift of "The Blessing" is key to a child's self-worth and emotional well-being. Children of every age long for the gift of The Blessing--the unconditional love and approval that comes from a healthy relationship with their parents.

This life-changing gift for Christian parents and their children, essential for instilling a deep sense of worthiness and unshakable emotional well-being, contains five essential elements:

  • Meaningful touch
  • A spoken message
  • Attaching high value
  • Picturing a special future
  • An active commitment

Offering solid, practical advice and a fresh perspective on making this gift a bigger part of our families, The Blessing powerfully communicates these biblically based elements as necessary to prepare children for positive future relationships, including their relationship with a loving God.

New to this updated edition are:

  • Giving The Blessing to others in your circle of influence
  • Practical application tools and stories of how this is lived out
  • Insight and help for those who didn't receive The Blessing
  • How to create a lifestyle of blessing others

If you have missed out on the approval of your parents, the final chapters are for you. They include help for those who grew up without their own parent's blessing and provide ideas for blessing events.
