Out and About with Damon
Damon has been out of the office this week as he and Bonnie have been visiting family out of state. Here are some highlights since last week's newsletter that he has posted to Facebook.
What a blessing it was on Friday to join with ministry leaders from across seven states who are a part of the Children's Hunger Fund program. I am grateful for the resources this ministry provides to our churches to impact their communities.

Saturday morning found Damon at the Men's Breakfast at Emmanuel in Portales. A good crowd was there to enjoy fellowship. Then Damon and Bonnie enjoyed the monthly Hispanic pastors lunch fellowship.

Sunday morning was spent at First Baptist Church Portales where Damon brought the message. The church is anticipating the arrival of their new pastor who will begin preaching on October 25.
Next week will find Damon attending the Baptist Convention of New Mexico's annual meeting the first part of the week followed by the Tri-Area Baptist Association meeting in Melrose on Saturday.

Four New Mexico Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers from Clovis visited First Baptist Church Tucumcari this past Sunday. After a great time of worship thru music and prayer, Jim Hogg, Tri-Area's DR Coordinator, brought the message and the others provided a little bit of their background within NMBDR while showing some props.
After the service, there was a lunch for those attending "basic" training and six new volunteers were signed up.
Part of the emphasis was on DR volunteers being readily available to help in their local communities even though they may not be able to be away from "home" for a week or more at a time.
As the recent flooding in Clovis and Portales demonstrated, you can never know when your community may be the one to experience a disaster!
Although volunteers from this area usually travel away from home, this time they got to sleep in their own beds after a day of work!
Work in Clovis has been suspended for this week but will resume again on the 19th. So far there have been 14 requests for assistance and several jobs have already been completed.
If you are interested in learning more about this ministry, contact Jim Hogg at 575-799-7873 or Elaine Williford at 575-714-7788 to see when the next training will be held.
If you would like to receive prayer request texts for disaster relief missions, please text Elaine your contact information and she will add you to that list. (At this time, 245 people receive these prayer request text messages.)
This is the group serving in Radium Springs, NM that the most recent text was sent about. They include 2 volunteers from Clovis.

Even if you do not feel God's leading to join in the physical part of Disaster Relief, you can support by your prayers!

Registration is open for the Tri-Area Association's Annual Meeting at First Baptist Melrose on Saturday, October 24. It will really help us if you register your messengers in advance. Our annual gathering is more than just a meeting. We will work on the business of our Association for the coming year, but we will also celebrate what the Lord has done in this past year and challenge ourselves for ministries to come.
We are planning a barbeque dinner after the meeting. The Association is providing the meat. Like we did for the meeting in House in April we are inviting each group coming to bring a dish for the meal. Here is how we are dividing up the other dishes:
-
Tucumcari area churches bring salads.
-
Clovis area churches bring side dishes.
-
Portales area churches bring desserts.
PLAN to join us for the Annual Meeting, REGISTER your church messengers, and PRAY for a great movement of the Lord as we meet on October 24. Here is the LINK to the registration page to register.

The "Book" of the Week is Born to Reproduce by Trotman Dawson. It is listed under the Evangelism and Disciple-making tab of the Good Books section on our website.

In a 1955 address, Dawson Trotman outlined the philosophy and convictions by which he lived and labored. The terms “evangelize” and “discipleship” were not yet in widespread use, but his message of sharing your faith one-on-one in relationship, encouraging the spiritual growth of others like a sibling or a parent, and spreading the Gospel among generations of believers still resonates today. Later published as a booklet, his words are an essential resource for the follow up needed for spiritual growth and outreach. Sold in packs of 10.
